against my will
I spent most of my childhood in Oregon. My mother moved us there from sacramento — a sideways move — in october of 1974. i learned to appreciate the outdoors and the relative freedom.
there was much i disliked about it, but i found things to love about it. i was there “against my will”, but that sometimes describes much of childhood.
Oregon has changed since 1974. Where i grew up is now a somewhat affluent wine region. When we arrived decades ago, it was largely depressed logging and hardscrabble farming towns.
I've known this barn since I was five.
